Chicago Blackhawks prospect Mason West, who is also gifted at football, is setting the record straight on his decision to pursue playing hockey over football during his career.
Chicago Blackhawks prospect Mason West, who is also a gifted quarterback, was able to lead Edina High School in Minnesota to the Minnesota Class AAAAAA state championship.
He and his teammates beat Moorhead High School 42-35 to capture the title, giving West a perfect end to his high school football career.
During his last five games, his stats were impressive, as he completed 106 of 121 passes for 1,273 yards and 12 touchdowns with a lone interception.
West then confirmed that he's played the last down of his competitive football career as he now looks ahead to his career on the ice.
"I think I have played my last down in football, but if anyone needs a scout player, I'd be interested. But no, no more football."
West will now continue his hockey career by playing for the Michigan State Spartans of the NCAA.
Blackhawks Prospect Mason West Will Now Turn His Attention Full-Time To Hockey
The Blackhawks took West with the 29th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, and he's among their more intriguing prospects in their current pool.
Per draft analyst Steven Ellis of The Daily Faceoff, West continues to get better every time he watches him play.
"Every time I watch him, he finds a way to get better. The upside is tremendous, and he doesn't struggle with traits that some other big forwards can, including slower hands and feet."
West also played hockey for Edina High School and had 49 points (27G, 22A) in 31 games.
