Ex-Blackhawk Jonathan Toews suffers distressing injury in Winnipeg Jets preseason game

Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews announced his intentions for an NHL comeback earlier this year and made good on it by signing a 1 year deal with the Winnipeg Jets.

Being from Winnipeg, signing with the Jets was a full circle moment for Toews, who hasn't played an NHL game since 2023.

But it looks like his tenure with the Jets could already be off to a bad start as he may have gotten hurt on Tuesday against the Minnesota Wild in the 2nd period; he didn't come back to play the 3rd period.

Per head coach Scott Arniel, Toews "tweaked" something.

Toews has not played an NHL game since April of 2023 with the Chicago Blackhawks, not long after he was informed by the team he captained to 3 Stanley Cups that he would not be re-signed.

Toews missed lots of time with the Blackhawks because of the effects of Long-Covid along with a 2021 diagnosis of CIRS (chronic inflammatory response syndrome).

So far in his career, Toews has 883 points (372G, 511A).

The Jets won the President's Trophy last year for the 1st time in franchise history, but were beaten in the WCSF by the Dallas Stars, who would then later be eliminated in the WCF by the Edmonton Oilers for the 2nd straight year.
