The Chicago Blackhawks lost both games in the home-away doubleheader, including a 9-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.

Coming out of the game on Thursday night after they got robbed and lost 3-2 to the Seattle Kraken, the Blackhawks looked lifeless and looked like they weren't very interested in playing any hockey on Friday night.
The defense was getting beaten constantly, the forwards weren't backchecking or working hard in the corners, the power play looked horrendous, and they didn't complete a simple tape-to-tape pass for about 17 minutes at one point in the game.
Sure, it would've been nice if anyone other than Connor Bedard and Tyler Bertuzzi cared, but these games have happened before. The difference is that Spencer Knight was in the net to save them, not Arvid Soderblom.

Arvid Soderblom's struggles setback the Blackhawks

Soderblom letting in a whopping nine goals is just unacceptable, and at some point in the game, you'd start to expect and hope for a save or two, but with the team taking the night off, there wasn't much he could've done.
There are ones he should've had and ones that he'd have wanted back, but that's the case for every hockey game.
Soderblom, after struggling in 2023, having a great year in 2024, and now this year having some mixed performances, has been an up-and-down rollercoaster. The rollercoaster isn't fun, and it's getting to the point where his name is exiting the conversation on being the future backup.
Laurent Brossoit may mess around and find himself in the backup goalie spot rather soon and play his first game as a Blackhawk sooner rather than later since he's back practicing with the team. Even Drew Commesso is peaking his head through the door down in Rockford.
The game against the Sabres on Friday shows you just how good Knight is.
If Knight was in the net and the Hawks scored three goals, you're probably looking at a win. Knight has bailed the Blackhawks out so many times.
He has 28.88% of goals saved above expected, leading the NHL (including a .922 SV% and a 2.47 GAA). Knight should finish in the top three of the Vezina race, if not win it, this year.
This is a clear look at how the games this season would've gone without him, and if Knight weren't in Chicago, the Blackhawks would be down in the bottom of the league with the Nashville Predators.

Should Spencer Knight get more flowers?
