New Jersey Devils star forward Jack Hughes was injured while at a team dinner in Chicago on Thursday and will reportedly be out indefinitely.
Even though injuries that take place on the ice are a way of life in the NHL, it's a completely different thing when a star player gets hurt while participating in a non-hockey-related activity.
New Jersey Devils star forward Jack Hughes somehow suffered a cut to his hand in what sources are calling a "fluke accident" during a recent team dinner.
The team dinner was at 'Chicago Cut', oddly enough.
There aren't very many details known, per analyst Elliotte Friedman.
"It's an incredibly unfortunate story, but word came Friday that Jack Hughes suffered a hand injury while at a team dinner Thursday night.
Exact details are unknown at this time, but it's believed he slipped and cut his hand, in what multiple sources are calling a fluke accident."
So far this year, Hughes has scored 20 points (10G, 10A) in 17 games for the Devils, who have been one of the best teams in the East over the last month.
If Hughes has to miss significant time, it could be harmful for New Jersey's chances to stay at the top of their division and conference.
Jack Hughes Was Taken With The First Pick In The 2019 NHL Entry Draft
The 2019 NHL Entry Draft was popularly referred to as the "Lose For Hughes" sweepstakes, which the Devils eventually won.
Hughes was taken with the first overall pick, and even though he's experienced multiple injury issues throughout his career, he's established himself as one of the best players in the NHL.
