A Chicago Blackhawks goaltender is back with the organization after being away for over a year due to an injury.
The Chicago Blackhawks organization has been able to count on a solid number one goaltender this season in Spencer Knight.
In 13 games so far this season, the former Florida Panthers goalie has seven wins, one shutout, a 2.42 goals against average, and a .924 SV%.
Knight, 24, signed a three-year, $5,833,333 AAV contract with the Blackhawks that will kick in next season, once the $4.5M AAV deal he signed with the Panthers in 2022 expires.
But the organization has another card up its sleeve, as another goalie who didn't play for over a year could return.
Laurent Brossoit Returns To Practice After Missing More Than A Season Due To Injuries
Laurent Brossoit signed a two-year, $3,300,000 AAV contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2024. The 32-year-old goalie was coming off a Stanley Cup championship win with the Vegas Golden Knights and appeared to be on his way to lead the Hawks to the next chapter of their development.
The goalie had the best season of his career in 2023-24 with the Winnipeg Jets. In 23 games, he had 15 wins, a .927 SV% and a 2.00 GAA.
If Brossoit returns to his former self, the Hawks will be able to count on a true contending goalie duo, or have another interesting trade asset to put on the block.
An official update should be made at some point concerning his return to action, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the Hawks send him to the AHL for conditioning purposes.
