Even though Nashville Predators forward Steven Stamkos could be on the trade block soon, don't expect too much energy on the part of the Chicago Blackhawks to potentially try and acquire him.
We've received confirmation of Stamkos' fate of heading to Chicago, and it appears to be crossed out.
Even though there's been plenty made about the lack of a contract for next year between the Chicago Blackhawks and Connor Bedard, there is a new buzz around the Windy City thanks to their improved start.
The Blackhawks are seeing great contributions from newer players like Andre Burakovsky and Spencer Knight and have impressed fans and analysts with their start under first-year head coach Jeff Blashill.
On the other hand, things have not worked out at all with the Nashville Predators the way they thought when they signed Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Sjkei last summer.
Stamkos continues to struggle to score goals and has now found himself embroiled in recent trade rumors.
Per analyst Dimitri Filipovic, there would be no shortage of teams in on Stamkos based on his name recognition alone, but more likely to be a team hoping to drum up more fan excitement.
"I think a lot of teams would theoretically be in on him just because he is Steven Stamkos and has the name reputation. I don't know, man. The $8 million he's owed for two more years after this one is a lot, even with everyone having more cap space. He's just so limited as a player now. I don't think a serious contender would look to use their cap space on that. I think it would be a team that's looking to generate fan excitement."
Would Steven Stamkos Be A Fit With The Blackhawks?
The Blackhawks have more than enough cap space to accommodate Stamkos, who has an AAV (average annual value) of $8 million through 2027.
Even though he's struggling to score goals right now, he remains a dangerous threat on the PP and would also bring championship-winning leadership into the Blackhawks locker room that is now run by Bedard and Frank Nazar.
