Per Chicago Blackhawks analyst Tab Bamford, the Blackhawks could potentially already be thinking about a trade to upgrade their blue line.
Thanks to the strong start to the year for the Chicago Blackhawks, fans are understandably thinking about a potential return to the postseason for what would be the first time since 2020.
And even though the most important task ahead of Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson is a new contract for Connor Bedard, who was taken with the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, there are some whispers about potential trade activity.
Per analyst Tab Bamford, there were multiple scouts at last night's game at the United Center against the New Jersey Devils, and they could decide to make a trade before long.
"fwiw, with the buzz about the number of scouts at the Blackhawks game last night getting some to wonder about how soon trades could happen for Chicago:
the blue line is still very much a work in progress. I don't see the Hawks compromising their depth quite yet"
Right now, the Blackhawks have around $14 million worth of salary cap space that would more than accommodate a potential addition to help bolster their team.
Head Coach Jeff Blashill Called Out Sam Rinzel Following The Game
After the Blackhawks lost 4-3 in OT to the New Jersey Devils, Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill called out defenseman Sam Rinzel and said it's vital for the team to have him playing at a high level again.
"Rinzel has gone through a cycle where he's given up a lot of chances. Crevier been a really good defender for us. Going into the game, we were looking at potentially having Vlasic-Crevier vs. Hughes and/or Hischier, and that happened a lot. We have to get Rinz back going."
So far this year, Rinzel has three points (1G, 2A) in 17 games.
