Ex-Chicago Blackhawks forward Artemi Panarin has received a disrespectful contract offer from Chris Drury and the New York Rangers, which may cause him to look elsewhere in the league for a new home.

It will ultimately be a move that they will regret in the end, that will likely set off Panarin's camp (himself and his agent) with such a low offer.
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman of the 32 Thoughts Podcast dropped some interesting information on the latest contract negotiations between Artemi Panarin and the New York Rangers.
The New York Rangers, according to Friedman, offered Panarin's camp a team-friendly deal in order to keep him in a Blueshirt longer than the length remaining on his contract.
His current contract, which is set to expire in 2026, pays him $11.642 million; if not extended, it could result in the Rangers having to trading him or letting him walk in free agency.

GM Chris Drury Offers Artemi Panarin a Team Discount

Artemi Panarin and his camp received a discount, which Chris Drury hoped he'd accept.
Instead, the disrespectful offer was rejected by Panarin, even though General Manager Drury believed that he would accept a deal that would keep the team flush with cash.
Using Anze Kopitar as an example, who signed a two-year, $14 million deal in 2023 to stick with the team, Drury hoped he might share the same motivation as Kopitar.
«the Kings went to him and said «we need you take a little bit less»; at some point this offseason the Rangers had that kind of a conceptual discussion with Panarin; I don't know where that's going to go.»

The gamble hasn't paid off, as now, the Rangers and Panarin are poised to part ways if the situation continues to evolve for the worse.
This sets the stage for Panarin to exit the Rangers and give him the freedom to find a team that will pay him what he's worth in 2026.
