The Chicago Blackhawks were delivered an unexpected surprise on Monday when goaltender Laurent Brossoit was spotted on the ice for the first time in over one year while he was practicing between the pipes ahead of team practice starting.

On April 28, 2024, Laurent Brossoit suffered an injury in Game 4 of the first round in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Winnipeg Jets.
The following summer, he hit unrestricted free agency, where he signed a two-year, $6.66M contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.
He's yet to play a single game or even practice with the team-until Monday at Fifth Third Arena.
"Here's a development: Laurent Brossoit is on the ice before practice.

He has not played a single game with Chicago yet after missing all of last season with a knee injury and then having offseason hip surgery."

A meniscus surgery in 2024, paired with a second knee surgery that was only supposed to have him sidelined for 2 months, has kept him out for the past 12 months.
To mention, this offseason, a third surgery was performed on his hip, thankfully not his knee.
But now, the Blackhawks will be left in a situation to make a goaltending trade, and there would definitely be suitors.
Despite Brossoit still being weeks or even months away from a return, the former Stanley Cup Champion is going to want playing time at the NHL level.

Chicago Blackhawks face tough decision in goal with return of cup champion goaltender

The Blackhawks are certainly not going to be looking in any direction of a Spencer Knight trade, as he's their solidified starting netminder.
On the other hand, Arvid Soderblom could be playing for his job these next few months, with a decision needing to be made by general manager Kyle Davidson on who to have as his NHL tandem.
Brossoit has a handful of playoff experience, including a Stanley Cup, and with how things are trending for the Blackhawks as of late, completing a decision in goal that could reflect their outcome if they do make the playoffs isn't a terrible decision.
