Per a new report, the New Jersey Devils, who lost forward Jack Hughes for eight weeks after a freak injury during a team dinner, could try and target Chicago's Jason Dickinson.
The New Jersey Devils lost forward Jack Hughes after he was injured during what the team described as a "freak accident" during a team dinner in Chicago. He suffered some kind of cut to his hand which required surgery, and he's expected to miss at least the next eight weeks.
It's a concerning update for Hughes, who has suffered various injuries during his NHL career and hasn't played in a full season since playing 78 games in 2022-23.
Per NHL Trade Rumors, the Devils could consider trying to acquire Jason Dickinson from the Chicago Blackhawks in Hughes' place if he's going to be out longer term than expected.
If the Devils cannot locate an affordable center rental, exploring winger upgrades may be the fallback approach.
Alexander Wennberg of the San Jose Sharks and Jason Dickinson of the Chicago Blackhawks are realistic fits, especially if either team retains salary.
Not only is Hughes injured, but so is Dickinson. He suffered a shoulder injury and has missed the last several games. He has three points (1G, 2A) in the eight games he's played in before the shoulder injury.
Jason Dickinson Is A Pending UFA With Chicago
Dickinson was taken with the 29th overall pick by the Dallas Stars in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, and he'd play the first several years of his NHL career in a Stars sweater before he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks in 2021.
But after just a single year with the Canucks, he was traded to the Blackhawks for defenseman Riley Stillman.
