The Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers are legitimate trade partners following a crucial goaltending injury update

Bad luck has hit the Edmonton Oilers camp, as the injury bug has claimed goaltender Tristan Jarry, whom they had just traded for.
According to a recent update from coach Kris Knoblauch, he's set to be out for weeks, and this injury update could be beneficial for the Chicago Blackhawks. Knobloauch announced a timeline for Jarry's injury recently.
«Nothing too specific, but he's going to be out for a couple of weeks. We won't see him until the new year at some point, and yeah, that's it.»

The team has a glut of goaltenders in the pipeline, and one of those is goaltender Laurent Brossoit, who was activated from injured reserve.
Brossoit was signed to a two-year deal with the Blackhawks in July 2024. He has suited up for the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, recently playing four games, with a 3-1-0 record, 3.29 goals-against average, and a .909 save percentage.
With Jarry out for weeks and having to rely on call-up Conor Ingram from the Bakersfield Condors, Brossoit could be a good trade target for the Oilers, as they will have to rely on veteran goaltender Calvin Pickard to take on the majority of the starts.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers should combine for a goaltender trade

For the Edmonton Oilers, Brossoit would provide immediate support on the backend for a team that's not so great on the blueline. Despite the recent addition of Conor Ingram, who has found himself in the AHL, Brossoit could be the ultimate foil to Pickard.
Brossoit makes $3.3 million in average annual value against the Blackhawks' salary cap and could be a meaningful rental to help push the team back into contention, should General Manager Stan Bowman see fit to make a trade for him.
With Brossoit being out for so long, it's doubtful that the Blackhawks could extract much value in a deal with the Oilers.
But since the team has a deep prospect pool in the crease, this could be a meaningful trade to keep the pipeline fresh and let the young players grow and develop playing meaningful minutes, whether in the AHL or NHL.
