The Edmonton Oilers might be looking at goaltending depth again by circling former netminder Laurent Brossoit in a suggested trade with the Chicago Blackhawks as they aim to fortify their tandem after the Tristan Jarry addition.

Brossoit, 32, brings NHL experience and a history with Edmonton after a stint early in his career, and his .A 911 save percentage over 140 NHL games makes him intriguing if healthy.
Jarry suffered an injury Thursday night, bringing the Oilers back to square one with their lack of goaltending succes.
The proposed deal has the Oilers taking on Brossoit with half his $3.3 million cap hit retained, while sending a bottom-six forward and a late draft pick the other way.
This kind of retention would make the veteran goalie fit under Edmonton's tight salary structure and give them another reliable body behind Jarry and Stuart Skinner.
Chicago's decision to give Brossoit a conditioning stint with the Rockford IceHogs and then shop him signals they have less room for him with Spencer Knight and Arvid Soderblom ahead on the depth chart.
Prior to his injuries, Brossoit posted a .927 SV% and 2.00 goals-against average in 23 games with other teams, showcasing the upside Edmonton could be chasing. Hockey Latest

Oilers weigh goaltender past vs future

That historical success makes him worth watching, but there's real concern among some in the hockey world about relying on a goalie coming off long layoffs, considering how the Oilers' season shifted when John Klingberg struggled after an extended absence.
Oilers insiders note that engaging the Blackhawks in a trade could solve both teams' roster puzzles, giving Chicago a forward and draft capital while Edmonton adds a veteran goalie with upside.
If Brossoit can stay healthy and regain form, his addition could give Edmonton fans confidence that their goaltending unit isn't just deeper but potentially more competitive in playoff carries.
This isn't a done deal yet, but it's a move worth monitoring as the Oilers balance cap dollars, roster needs, and the ever-present desire to get over the hump in the Stanley Cup race.
