Blackhawks Sign National Goaltender of the Month
Goaltending is one thing Chicago won't have to worry about for a long time. In addition to Soderblom and Stauber, the Blackhawks have signed Drew Commesso out of Boston University.
Serving as an alternate captain, the 20 year old helped lead BU in seven straight wins, gaining a Hockey East title for the University, and making it to the Frozen Four, and has been named National Goaltender of the Month. In his 73 games with Boston, the 6'2», 180lb net minder garnered a .914 SV% with a record of 43-22-4, 2.57 GAA, and 3 shutouts.
He was also the youngest goaltender to ever start for the U.S. Men's Olympic Team, and stopped all 29 shots in his Olympic debut, an 8-0 win over China, before making 24 saves in his only other start, a 3-2 win over Germany that helped the U.S. finish undefeated in preliminary-round play. Commesso finished Olympics with a .963 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against average; which ranked him second among all goalies who made at least two appearances.
Originally drafted by the Blackhawks in the second round of the 2020 draft (46th overall), the Massachusetts native signed with Chicago on April 10th. Commesso's contract is a 3 year, entry level deal that runs through the 2025-26 season. He will report to the Rockford IceHogs on a PTO for the remainder of their season.
