Chicago Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson appears to be declaring that the long-time rebuild is over, stating his next move which will greatly benefit the organizations roster
Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson has set himself up for great success this summer, with a boatload of cap space and hot free agents such as Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner.
The 36-year old general manager appears ready to be aggressive moving forward, and we will be witnessing the team actually acquire help for Connor Bedard soon.
«It's safe to say we're likely moving away from that,» Davidson said about acquiring draft picks.
The Blackhawks are stockpiled with first-rounds picks over the next two years, and now Davidson is ready to acquire NHL-ready talent for this struggling roster.
Davidson's trade deadline included a trade with Utah and a trade with their longtime rivals, the Detroit Red Wings.
The team parted ways with Seth Jones, Petr Mrazek and veteran Craig Smith, while acquiring Spencer Knight, Joe Veleno, Aku Raty, and Victor Soderstrom at the NHL trade deadline.
Davidson signals Blackhawks are ready to compete for playoffs
Davidson offered insight into their current cap situation alongside their draft capital, signalling that he is ready to trade his first-round picks in return for impact players to immediately improve this roster.
«We do have all these great assets that are future assets but we've got some really nice pieces that we feel are valuable around the league,»
The Blackhawks have acquired several aging veteran players throughout the past couple of trade deadlines, but it has not got the job done.
Instead, their new approach is acquiring impactful players in their mid-20's to help the organization long-term.
«We've got over $30 million in cap space next year and not too many guys to re-sign,» Davidson stated
As Davidson retained Ryan Donato and declined to move him at the NHL trade deadline, it appears he is the first asset that the Blackhawks seem to align with for next years re-tooling process.
