Kyle Davidson and the Chicago Blackhawks have announced the hiring of Jeff Blashill as their new head coach.

Blashill served as Jon Cooper's assistant coach for the past three years on the Tampa Bay Lightning before getting this position.
This isn't the first head coaching job for Jeff, though. Jeff is a winning coach at the minor league level, such as the Indiana Ice of the USHL in 2009 and the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2013.
However, when he got his first NHL head coaching job with the Detroit Red Wings in 2015, he got it at the worst possible time on a tanking ship and only made the playoffs once, in 2015, his first year, and lost in the first round.
He was the coach in Detroit for seven years until losing the job and going to Tampa, where he spent three years as an assistant coach.
Blashill is a defensive-minded coach and has experience working with young players, even though it was over a decade ago.
With Chicago having one of the best young defensive cores in Artyom Levshunov, Alex Vlasic, Sam Rinzel, Kevin Korchinski, and more, they've got to like that. Plus, he got three years under his belt working with Jon Cooper, one of the best coaches in the NHL, since being fired from his head coaching position; that can't hurt either.
After the Blackhawks didn't get David Carle and he went back to Denver, it sent them into a spiral, and they had to go back to the drawing board. This hire definitely doesn't light the ground on fire, but anyone but Carle wasn't going to. The Blackhawks put all their time and resources into him, and it just didn't pan out. There's also a chance that this is only a bridge hire since they couldn't get their main candidate.
Either way, hopefully Blashill can improve this team and get them a little closer to playoff contention.
