A wild start to the season has the Chicago Blackhawks carrying strong momentum, but the crease arrangement is about to change with a reported Laurent Brossoit trade in the works. His upcoming conditioning stint with the Rockford IceHogs could mark his final stop in Chicago.

Brossoit, 32, has been sidelined almost since day one in a Blackhawks uniform. Signed in July 2024 to a two-year, US$3.3 million AAV deal, he underwent meniscus surgery and later hip surgery, forcing him to miss the entire 2024-25 season and much of training camp this year.
Spencer Knight has taken the reins as the new No. 1, and he's showing why he earned that role with a .918 save percentage, ranking among the NHL's best for goalies with double-digit starts.
Backup Arvid Soderblom is under contract for two more seasons and is considered the clear second option.
With that tandem locked, Brossoit has become the odd man out.

Brossoit's exit looks inevitable

With the crease locked down and no room for a third goalie, Chicago has begun allowing other teams to talk to Brossoit while he finishes rehabbing.
The IceHogs conditioning stint is expected to come within days, and insiders say, get well or not, Brossoit will be moved.
It's a shame in a way. Brossoit once posted a career .917-.927 save percentage in recent seasons and could have been a stabilizing veteran presence.
But facing a full goalie logjam, cap considerations, and a youth-first rebuild, Chicago is clearly prioritizing younger long-term options.
He might still catch on elsewhere, though. The Edmonton Oilers have been floated as a plausible landing spot, especially if they want a reliable veteran with a reasonable cap hit.
For Blackhawks fans the move stings a bit-Brossoit never once saw NHL action here. But the club appears ready to get tangible value back while making space for the future.
