Here's why Max Domi didn't return to the Chicago Blackhawks

Despite the fact that the American hockey team is unrecognizable compared to the Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews dynasties, there are unfortunate casualties along the way.

It can be argued that Max Domi was one of them, a player that fits very well into Luke Richardson's system, although he once again wasn't a long-term plan for the team to develop.

Domi signed with the team a 1-year deal with an AAV of $3 Million, so it wasn't like he was an expensive option as well considering his contract.

There was a point where it seemed as if the forward was interested in signing an extension to stay in Chicago, but Davidson and the team decided to test the market and let Domi walk away.

I find this surprising because while Domi played in Chicago, he showed he wasn't a slacker. In 45 games he put up 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points. He earned an extension with his play, arguably. Nevertheless, Max Domi appears to have been the victim of the rebuild.

Even though we lament Domi's absence from the team right now, let's hope that the success of Davidson continues.
