Smith who's 40 now would reveal how hard it was on his body playing through injuries during the season and playoffs, it sounds like this was obviously the best decision for Smith and the Oilers. Smith would comment saying:
«It was fun to make the playoffs and go on a run like we did, but playing through injuries for the majority of the season is not easy. I don't know where I'm going to be four months from now. I got a lot of stuff to deal with.»
- Mike Smith
Smith went 28-16-9 this season with a 2.81 goals against and .915 save percentage.
The Edmonton Oilers General Manager Ken Holland is going to have to spend some money because he's out two goalies. There's speculation the Oilers are going all in on pending UFA Ville Husso who was phenomenal for the St Louis Blues this season.
