NHL analyst Elliotte Friemdan has confirmed that Connor McDavid's re-signing with the Edmonton Oilers, will be for a lower AAV (average annual value) than some would expect.

Tensions are beginning to get higher for the Edmonton Oilers with each day that Connor McDavid doesn't sign a contract extension.
He's already been eligible to sign a new contract, but nothing has gotten done between him and general manager Stan Bowman, who has already insisted that he's not going to rush McDavid into a new deal.
Even though McDavid could potentially command the highest AAV (average annual value) in NHL history, NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman is saying something different. Per Friedman, McDavid's AAV could be lower than most anyone would have expected.
Elliotte Friedman: Re Connor McDavid extension: In the summer I think people were saying it was gonna be $16m; it's gonna be lower than we thought - 32 Thoughts Podcast (9/25)
McDavid and the Oilers have now lost in the SCF in each of the last 2 years, but the fact that Bowman did not make any kind of upgrade to the team's goaltending could be a sticking point for McDavid and go a long way in determining if he'll re-sign with the team.

Connor McDavid still hasn't signed a new deal

Bowman, who was previously the GM of the Chicago Blackhawks, said that he's going to allow McDavid to take his time making such a big choice in his career.
Whenever you're making a big decision it has to feel right.

And whenever that moment comes, maybe it's going to be two days from now or three days from now or two weeks from now, whenever it is, then he'll be ready.

So far in his career, McDavid has 1082 points (361G, 721A).
