Per NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the Chicago Blackhawks need to make a trade with the Vancouver Canucks if they're going to soon have a fire sale.

The Chicago Blackhawks are a team on the rise, and the Vancouver Canucks still haven't regained the momentum of their most recent best season of 2023-24.
They missed the playoffs last year and would easily miss the playoffs right now if they began today.
Amid reports that the Canucks could soon have a fire sale, NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman appeared to support that notion by saying that the team is ready to field offers for certain players not named Quinn Hughes.
Elliotte Friedman reported this week that the Canucks are listening to trade offers on «veteran players.» He added that Hughes is not one of those players, at least not right now. They want to stay competitive while getting younger at the same time. There are two players in Vancouver I'd love the Blackhawks to target: Elias Pettersson and Conor Garland.

Names like Conor Garland and Elias Pettersson could prove to be interesting options for GM Kyle Davidson to consider to not only add more fuel to Chicago's fire but to also give Connor Bedard, the face of the franchise who was taken with the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, more talent to play with.

Can The Blackhawks Make A Splash Acquisition From The Canucks?

One player on the Canucks who might need a change of scenery is Pettersson, who was confirmed to be in a feud with now ex-teammate JT Miller last year by team president Jim Rutherford.
He's still under contract with a hefty AAV (average annual value) of $11.6 million for several more years, which could be tricky for Chicago to commit to for that long.
But Garland is under contract for another year with a more digestible $6 million AAV, and he would give Chicago another offensive-minded option.
