Coming into the last year of his current deal, Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy is getting honest about being tired of losing and wanting to start winning.

It's no secret that the Chicago Blackhawks have done much more losing than winning over the last several years, even after getting the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft and using it to take Connor Bedard.
The Blackhawks have been at the bottom or near the bottom of the Western Conference standings in each of the last 3 years, and defenseman Connor Murphy is, quite frankly, getting tired of the constant losing.
He talked about his desire to start winning, especially after playing in the Winter Classic last year on such a major stage despite their losing record.
That's what ate me up the most in the Winter Classic last year. We were having a losing season again, but we had this big stage to put on a show and maybe get a win and get the city's camaraderie up a bit, and it just didn't happen. That ate at me. Knowing the season's going a certain way and you're not going to be able to make the playoffs is one thing, but not even being able to put on a show for that one night was (tough).

That's what's eaten at me the most - so many years of not being able to be that team, to be the ones everyone's following and rooting for more than all the other teams.

Murphy has been the subject of trade rumours in recent months.

Connor Murphy is going into the last year of his contract with the Blackhawks

Murphy signed a 4 year contract with the Blackhawks with an AAV (average annual value) of $4.4 million, and he's going into the last year of that contract.
Because of his contract status, he's been included in multiple trade rumours in recent months.
Taken with the 20th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes, Murphy has played in 745 total games and has 160 points (43G, 117A).
