Completed trade between the Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers now has a clear winner: Per insider

Spencer Knight could end up being the Blackhawks' starting goalie of the future. Acquired in March for defenseman Seth Jones and a fourth-round pick, Knight is set to be the foundation the team relies on night in and out on the ice.

The former 2019 1st-round pick has yet to hit his ceiling, according to NHL Insider Michael DeRosa of The Hockey News.

Knight split his 2024-25 season between the Blackhawks and Panthers, and ended the year with a 17-16-3 record, 2.72 GAA, and a .901 save percentage.

While his numbers weren't terrible, he has plenty of room to grow on a team that is also growing year by year.

He's played a total of 95 NHL games in four seasons, with a 49-33-9 record, a 2.83 GAA, and a .904 save percentage.

Knight has been given the honor of being placed 8th on the top-ten U26 goalies in the NHL, at #8. Knight was placed above Blues backup, Joel Hofer, who held tight at #9.

Knight could end up flipping the switch for the 2025-26 season and being the best goalie he can be, behind a young Chicago Blackhawks team.

Knight is a surefire winner for the Blackhawks in this trade, but it'll require him to help backstop the team to the playoffs and beyond.

THN's Michael DeRosa believes he'll be the team's starting netminder of the future and has yet to hit his true ceiling in the NHL.

We believe once Knight takes them to the playoffs, the Hawks will have won the deal, considering they have another 1st-round pick in 2026 in their treasure trove.
