Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson is explaining why he's not in a rush to sign pending unrestricted free agent forward Connor Bedard, who is entering the last year of his deal.

It could potentially be another rough year for the Chicago Blackhawks, but it's going to be a critical one in the development and potentially the future of Connor Bedard.
Bedard, who the Blackhawks took with the 1st overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, is coming into the last year of his 3-year entry-level contract he signed shortly after being taken in the draft.
General manager Kyle Davidson isn't in a rush to get it done, per Pro Hockey Rumors.
It's nothing we're actively working on right now but Connor's mentioned it and I'll say it: I have zero concern about where that's headed. He wants to be here for a long time, we want him here for a long time, we're going to make that happen.

It's taken a long time, but the Blackhawks could eventually begin to turn the tables toward getting back into postseason contention.

Bedard in no rush to sign extension with Blackhawks

Until it's signed, the Blackhawks are still playing the waiting game with forward Connor Bedard, who was taken with the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
It doesn't sound as though Bedard is in any hurry to get his contract done with the Blackhawks, even though he's the clear face of the franchise.
"I've said a bunch [of times] it hasn't been ruthless or anything. It's just a couple chats. It's all pretty chill. We have a good relationship. It's not something that keeps you up at night or that I really ever think about."

-Connor Bedard

So far in his NHL career with Chicago, Bedard has 128 points (45G, 83A).
