Canada's 2025 Spengler Cup roster is set, and Rockford IceHogs captain Brett Seney, along with Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Nolan Allan, is headed to Switzerland to represent their country at the historic tournament in Davos.

Team Canada's squad of 25 players was officially unveiled by Hockey Canada on Tuesday, with the team aiming for its 17th Spengler Cup title.
Seney, the 29-year-old forward drafted 157th overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2015, has been a consistent leader in Rockford and now gets a chance to don the Maple Leaf after solid AHL play this season. This marks his second Spengler Cup appearance, as he played in the event last season.
Allan, a talented 22-year-old defenseman selected 32nd overall in 2021 by the Blackhawks, also earned a spot on this year's Canadian roster. The Saskatchewan native made his NHL debut in the 2024-25 campaign and has been splitting time between the NHL and AHL.

Seney and Allan chase Canadian gold medal in Davos

Seney's competitive grit and Allan's steady defense will give Canada depth and balance in the tight, short-tournament format. Fans in both the Blackhawks and IceHogs camps will follow their performances closely, as international play offers a unique showcase outside the usual league rhythm.
Canada opens its Spengler Cup schedule Dec. 26 against the U.S. Collegiate Selects before facing the host HC Davos and other European club sides. The format traditionally runs through Dec. 31, culminating in a championship final where Canada will pursue gold against some of the best club and national talent in the world.
Seney's leadership in Rockford has been pivotal this season, with his veteran presence guiding younger Hogs prospects, making his Spengler Cup role feel earned. Meanwhile, Allan's physical game and steady poise on the blue line are a strong fit for the grinding pace of international competition.
For fans tracking Blackhawks organization talent, this represents a thrilling mid-season moment as two key contributors shift focus to international duty and proudly represent Canada abroad.
