Tragedy Hits- Former Enforcer and Stanley Cup Champion Passes Away Too Young
Chris Simon won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 1996 and was known for his iconic flow.
His death today was confirmed by both the Colorado Avalanche and New York Islanders.
The enforcer was known as a physical presence on the ice, a welcome presence for several teams that he played for during the 90s-00s.
Simon was originally drafted by the Quebec Nordiques and was a part of the relocation, which involved the team becoming the Colorado Avalanche afterward.
Sad news: Former NHL enforcer Chris Simon has died at age 52.
The Wawa, Ont., native racked up 1,824 PIM and 101 fighting majors in his 15-year NHL career. Simon won a Stanley Cup with the #Avs in 1996 and made Finals appearances with WSH and CGY.

The Islanders commented how much he meant to the team, as a player, and to the community in New York, and the NHL Alumni Association commented on how selfless of a player he was, standing up for his teammates.
Simon spent the majority of his career, with the Washington Capitals and had a career year during the 1999-2000 season, scoring 29 goals and 49 points.
He had also played for the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, and Calgary Flames during his NHL career.
Shortly afterwards in 2007-2008 he finished his professional hockey career in the KHL and became a two-time all-star in Russia.
Simon ended his NHL career with 1,824 PIMS and 305 points in 864 games.
