The Chicago Blackhawks' 2025 fifth-round draft pick is part of a trade deal between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Washington Capitals.

The Capitals are sending left-shot defenseman Joel Edmundson to the Maple Leafs, with the Maple Leafs sending two draft picks back to Washington: the Islanders' 2024 third-round pick and the Blackhawks' 2025 fifth-round pick.
In addition to the draft picks, the Capitals are retaining 50% of Edmundson's $1.75 million cap hit, which reduces his cap hit to $875,000 for the Maple Leafs.
To make room for the trade under the salary cap, the Maple Leafs have moved defenseman Conor Timmins from injured reserve to long-term injured reserve.
This trade demonstrates the movement and strategy involved in NHL trades, with teams considering cap space and future draft picks as part of their transactions.
