As a NHL player it must get quite tiring at times, as soon as you finish a two-hour time period game, you are going straight from the arena on to a plane for a lengthy flight and on your way to the next destination, which is a hotel. That next morning, usually teams hold a morning skate.

Sometimes players need that extra bit of shock to wake them up during games, and smelling salts is exactly what does the job. There has been some funny moments regarding players using smelling salts recently, check out Flyers goaltender Carter Hart using some, even though he was the backup goaltender.
