For more then a year it seemed the Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin was shopping around star forward JT Miller, who was heading into the final year of his current deal.

However, after the Canucks were given an ultimatum by Miller's agent to sign Miller long-term or trade him, the Canucks decided to sign Miller to a 7 year $56 million dollar deal. What's interesting how Miller's contract is laid out in terms of base salary versus signing bonuses.
According to Puck Empire, over $20 million of Miller's $56 million dollar deal comes in the form of signing bonuses, which are usually due on the first day of free agency each off-season.
Hopefully this contract works out well for both Miller and the Canucks. Sometimes these deals are good the first couple years but then the last couple years players production declines dramatically making the contract look like a bad signing.
