As part of their sponsorship efforts for the 2022-2023 season, the NHL recently introduced advertisements on the boards and on the jerseys of the players during the games.

In spite of the fact that the NHL keeps getting lapped over by multiple sports, Gary Bettman is doing everything he can to keep it relevant.
MLS is very close to passing the NHL in sponsorship revenue

With how rapidly the league is growing and with the World Cup coming in 2026, we are close to seeing a very new-looking American sports landscape
According to the NHL's own Marketing Partnerships Report, the league's sponsorship revenue for the season of 2022-2023 was $0.78 billion, which was the sum of 70 sponsors for the league last year, according to the NHL's own report.
The NHL's growth, however, has been slow due to Gary Bettman's leadership style.
The $0.75 billion here is peanuts when compared to the NFL's revenue of $1.88 billion for 2022-2023.
In addition, the NHL's TV deal is terrible, and blackouts are the norm.
In the wake of Lionel Messi's arrival, the MLS is on its way to overtaking the NHL.
To remain profitable and relevant, the NHL must abandon current thinking and learn from the other North American leagues.
