The NHL Alumni Association has confirmed reports of this news.
Meeker was drafted 25th overall by the Penguins in the 1978 draft, and would only play four games for the team. He would continue his hockey career through multiple organizations such as the NCAA, OHL, and AHL and would travel to Sweden to play.
