Detroit Red Wings face major backlash following huge shake up

Even old-school teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins are doing it.

Now, the Detroit Red Wings are joining in.

As Brad Galli of WXYZ reports, the Red Wings will unveil their first-ever jersey patch partnership before tomorrow's game against the New York Islanders at Little Caesars Arena.

While they already have a helmet sponsor with Meijer, this is the first time they'll have ads on their jerseys. In the past, they've had special patches like the "Believe" patch in 1997-98 and the "Mr. I" patch in 2016-17.

Some fans might not like this change, as the Red Wings' jersey is iconic in sports and holds a special place in many hearts.
