Kiefer Sherwood is set to hit the trade block in Vancouver, and the price is steep. Insider David Pagnotta says the ask is «a first-round pick plus,» which suggests the Chicago Blackhawks would have to surrender premium draft capital.

Sherwood, 30, is posting one of his best seasons in 2025-26 with 12 goals in 25 games for the Vancouver Canucks while playing a heavy, physical game that stays near the top of the league in hits.
His contract ends after this season, making him an unrestricted free agent, which gives his current team clear incentive to move him while value is high.
From Chicago's lens, that asking price feels more like what you'd pay for a top-six forward, not a mid-depth grinder.
Giving up yet another high‐end pick to acquire Sherwood could stall their long-term rebuild.
The Canucks would ultimately be asking for a high-end prospect plus a first-round pick.
A couple of prospects who are 'high-end' in Chicago are Oliver Moore, Sacha Boisvert, Roman Kanserov, and Marek Vanacker, who's recently made never-before-seen OHL history.

Sherwood gives Canucks leverage and Blackhawks tough choice

Sherwood's two-way game and scoring uptick gives him real leverage-and potential trade partners genuine incentive to pay up.
The Hawks, though, must weigh short-term firepower against long-term flexibility.
As a Hawks fan, you want scoring, physicality, and guys who can push for a playoff run-Sherwood delivers all three. As a rebuild believer, you see how precious draft capital is, especially after the last draft moves.
If Chicago is truly in the mix for Sherwood, management faces a tough but clear decision about how fast they want to accelerate their turnaround.
