There was a trade today made by the Chicago Blackhawks' divisional foe, the St. Louis Blues, and the Washington Capitals; did they miss out on an opportunity?

There was a trade completed today in the NHL between the divisional foes of the Chicago Blackhawks and the St. Louis Blues.
They made a swap with the Washington Capitals involving a pair of defensemen.
The Blues announced that they acquired defenseman Calle Rosen from the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenseman Corey Schueneman.
Even though both players are likely going to be playing the majority of their time in the minors, it's never a bad thing to have more depth at an important position like defense.
Did the Blackhawks miss a chance to gain an upper hand on the Blues by adding some depth to the defense?

Did The Blackhawks Miss An Opportunity To Add Defensive Depth?

Per his scouting report via Elite Prospects, Rosen is a reliable two-way defenseman.
"Mobile two-way defenseman with excellent skating skills. Plays a strong game at both ends. Handles the puck comfortably, has good hockey sense and a powerful release. No major weaknesses in his game."

Meanwhile, Schueneman was never drafted into the NHL and played several years for both the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL and the NCAA's Western Michigan University Broncos.
He signed an entry-level deal with the Montreal Canadiens before later signing with the Colorado Avalanche in 2023. He then signed a two-year deal with the Blues in 2024.
He has seven points (2G, 5A) in 35 NHL games.
