A goaltender acquired by the Chicago Blackhawks is turning out to be a huge addition after an impressive performance at the Tom Kurvers prospect showcase.

The Chicago Blackhawks and the St. Louis Blues faced off in the first game of the Hawks' prospect showcase yesterday.
The team came out slow at the start of the game, as many expected, and the Blues scored in the second minute of the game:
The Hawks managed to build momentum towards the end of the first period and build a 2-1 lead in the second period, with goals from Taige Harding and Ryan Mast.
St. Louis eventually tied the game at 2 and an overtime period was needed to determine a winner.
Twenty-four seconds into OT, Oliver Moore gave the Hawks the win on an offensive rush:
In the game, the Hawks' best player was their goaltender: Stanislav Berezhnoy.

The Russian goalie was never drafted in the NHL, but a promising year in the VHL, the KHL's junior league, where he averaged a 2.50 GAA and a .929 SV%, convinced Hawks GM Kyle Davidson to give him a shot.
He stood tall yesterday, making clutch saves to keep his team in the game despite taking an early deficit.
At the end of the night, he blocked 31 of the 33 shots fired at him by the Blues:
The Rockford IceHogs head coach Jared Nightingale, who was behind the bench for the showdown, was impressed by his compete level and his nature, although he's not sure the goalie understands him as he doesn't speak English:
It'll be interesting to see how he fares in training camp and if he gets the nod for a preseason game. Although he's likely to end up in the AHL, he could end up competing for the number two role in the NHL against Arvid Soderblom and Drew Commesso.
