NHL analyst Frank Seravalli has issued a statement on the future of Connor Bedard with the Chicago Blackhawks as he enters his last year of his contract.
Connor Bedard, who was taken with the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, is getting ready to enter the last year of the 3-year entry level contract he signed with them shortly afterward.
Bedard has said many times that he fully intends on committing long term to the Blackhawks, but so far no deal has gotten done.
Per a new report from NHL analyst Frank Seravalli, Bedard could play the year out without a new deal in place for next season and potentially draw comparable to the deals that other players get.
There's a real likelihood that Bedard is going to play this out and see how year three goes before signing that deal; there's no rush to do it from either end.
Last year, Bedard had 67 points (23G, 44A) in 82 games, his 2nd full year in the NHL.
The Blackhawks have spoken to Bedard about a new deal
In July, Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson said that both he and Bedard have talked about a new contract.
We'll see, but if we're able to get something done (soon), that would be fantastic. But if we don't, I think it's probably more so out of the uncertainty around how the League and the system is going to be growing or impacted moving forward than anything player/team related.
Right now, it appears as though the Blackhawks and Bedard could try and out-wait one another.
