The Pittsburgh Penguins are dealing with an unfortunate injury, as Joel Blomqvist is now sidelined - can the Chicago Blackhawks, who have an overflow of goalie prospects, come to their aid?

Last year wasn't the kind of season the Pittsburgh Penguins wanted to have, as they missed the playoffs for the 3rd straight year, marking the longest drought in the careers of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang.
The Penguins also weren't aided by the poor goaltending of Tristan Jarry, who struggled and was sent to the AHL; they also got subpar performances from Alex Nedeljkovic, who was traded to the Sharks over the summer.
Prospect Joel Blomqvist is expected to challenge Jarry for the starting job this year, but he's dealing with an injury and is considered day to day.

Can the Blackhawks come to the aid of the Penguins?

The Blackhawks appear to be set in goal with both Spencer Knight and Arvid Soderblom, both of whom were re-signed by Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson to new contracts recently.
One goaltender that the Blackhawks still have under contract even though he's not played a single game for them is Laurent Brossoit, a former Stanley Cup winner with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023.
His name has been involved in trade rumors as of late.
After he played another stint with the Winnipeg Jets, he was signed to a 2 year contract by the Blackhawks last summer, but injuries and surgeries have prevented him from playing.
Since he's now been made expendable by the emergence of Soderblom along with the acquisition and re-signing of Spencer Knight, perhaps Davidson would consider flipping Brossoit or even Arvid Soderblom to Pittsburgh to give them added goaltending depth while also unloading some salary cap space from his own books.
