Blackhawks fans want more goals and better pacing from their top guns before Saturday's game against the Ottawa Senators, especially with the offense sputtering and production lagging around key forwards.
Chicago's attack hasn't clicked consistently, and with Ottawa ranking high in scoring this season, the Hawks need solutions to jumpstart more threats off the rush and in the slot.
Top priority is getting Frank Nazar more creative ice time with skilled finishers around him, because simply cycling in the neutral zone hasn't opened up clean passing lanes. His ability to dodge checks should be a weapon, not a mismatch.
A line with Tyler Bertuzzi forechecking hard, Nazar's hands, and Andre Burakovsky's knack for net-front chaos could push puck carriers north quicker and change the pace. Winning the first 10 feet of the offensive zone will be key against Ottawa.
Tweak the second unit too, because right now it isn't challenging defenders high enough in the neutral zone to open seams up for quick cross-ice feeds. A more aggressive winger swap could get better support on the backcheck and set up odd-man chances that have been absent lately.
Get Bertuzzi, Nazar and Burakovsky firing
For fans, this feels like the make-or-break moment where chemistry should show up in the goals column. Chicago has skilled pieces that can stretch a defense, but spacing and timing have been inconsistent.
Defensively, the Hawks still need transitions that cut down on Ottawa's odd-man chances, because the Senators' rush attack has shown it can take advantage of slow exits. Chicago's defensemen should auto-flip pucks to space when forechecked hard, not second-guess under pressure.
Special teams will matter too. Chicago's power play has underperformed its opportunities this season, and tighter point shooting combined with better net presence could get more rebounds and second-chance goals. Effort along the boards on draws and quick puck recovery in the offensive zone would lift pressure on the Senators.
Lineup changes aren't just about swapping bodies, they're about finding combos that generate chances early and make Ottawa adjust fast. Getting depth forwards into quicker rotations and trusting them with puck support time could very well tilt Saturday's tilt.
Chicago's offensive attack needs to feel alive again, and right now is the time to press the pedal before the Senators visit with their own scoring punch in tow.
