Forward Patrick Kane says he wanted to be a lifelong Blackhawk
Patrick Kane, a three-time Stanley Cup champion, returns to the United Center tomorrow.
In his new team, the Detroit Red Wings, he and former Blackhawk, Alex DeBrincat are in the playoff hunt.
Currently, the Wings are 31-20-6 and 4th in the Atlantic Division. Like him, the team is healthy and prepared to dominate the division.
As we await his return to take on rookie Connor Bedard, we wonder, "What if?".
Kyle Davidson had to make tough decisions when he began the rebuild, and the first two big decisions he made may not have been the best ones.

Even though it may have freed up some cap space, losing someone like Patrick Kane is like losing one's identity. He was a leader and helped the team win three Stanley Cups, and he is a deadly offensive weapon for any team that rosters him.
Kyle Davidson, however, dealt him away to the New York Rangers as part of the rebuild.
It seems more and more likely that Kane never wanted to leave the Blackhawks.

The team, like the organization, has a new face, and Kane's wants seem to have been ignored. In his own words, he would have loved to be a Blackhawk for the rest of his life.
Kane would've loved to retire a Blackhawk, but was there any other option Kyle Davidson could have thought of to keep him around?
Considering the veteran is currently making under $3 Million AAV in Detroit, it appears he didn't consider the veteran might take a discount to stay in Chicago.
With Connor Bedard and Patrick Kane on the same team, it seems like a missed opportunity. Imagine how much more deadly the team would be with Kane on the wing.

Bedard is on his way to a Calder Trophy and Kane is currently a point-per-game player in the NHL.
Kyle Davidson threw away one of the hardest-working and most skilled players in the NHL with a false narrative to avoid criticism.
