Alex DeBrincat just added to more than his goal total this season - he and his wife Lyndsey welcomed their third child, a son named Leighton Alexander, born December 5.

The arrival of baby No. 3 didn't come at the expense of his ambition, as DeBrincat openly said he still wants to crack the United States men's national ice hockey team for the 2026 Olympics while suiting up for Detroit Red Wings.
"Another Cat added to the crew

Congrats to the DeBrincat family on the addition of their newest son, Leighton!"
He's already a proud father to sons Archie and Maverick, born in 2022 and 2024 respectively.
DeBrincat and Lyndsey have shared the happy news on social media with hospital photos and sibling-first-meet images, a warm family moment off the ice.
On the ice he's been delivering, too. This season he's among the U.S.-born forwards with strong scoring numbers, and he's voiced confidence he can slide into the Olympic roster even if his size - 5-foot-8 - remains a talking point.

DeBrincat balances family joy and Olympic hopes

Detroit fans know how valuable a consistent winger like DeBrincat can be, and now he's adding more motivation. As the family expands he's leaning into the chance to show the international stage he belongs. That dual role - doting dad and competitive forward - gives him a deeper edge.
Between welcoming Leighton and pushing for Team USA, DeBrincat faces both a life milestone and career challenge. But if this season is any indicator, he's intent to keep delivering on both fronts.
"Obviously I believe in myself. I believe I should be on that team. I feel good right now. With that being said, there's a lot of good players. I'm sure they have some hard, tough choices."

"I definitely wasn't happy about it. Everyone there deserved to be there as well, so it's tough to be in the position where it kind of is what it is. It's water under the bridge."

He wants his game - not his size - to speak for him and show that family life and Olympic ambition can go hand in hand.
