Connor Bedard says his Chicago Blackhawks teammate Frank Nazar is exactly «the kind of player coaches dream about» when talking Olympic hopes, and that belief speaks to the depth and versatility he sees in Nazar. Bedard's quote didn't come from thin air, it came from a deep respect for how Nazar impacts the game beyond the scoreboard.

Bedard, the 20-year-old center and No. 1 overall pick in 2023, has shown elite offensive skills, but on the latest 32 Thoughts Podcast he made it clear what he values most when building a team that can win in international competition.
«Versatility is something obviously special. He's a special offensive player, but I mean, he's our first guy out there on the penalty kill, six on five, any situation, taking faceoffs, really anything,» Bedard explained. «That's the kind of player coaches dream about when building an Olympic roster.»

Bedard went further to underline his belief in Nazar's all-around game saying,
«When you're building those types of teams, they've talked about that a lot. It's not an All-Star team; it's the guys that fill roles, and he's someone that can fill any role.»

Chicago fans know Nazar's impact isn't limited to power play goals or highlight plays, it's the trust coaches show him in key defensive situations and critical faceoffs that makes him standout as a potential Olympic selection.
Bedard wrapped his thoughts by adding,
«He can play on the top line, on the fourth line, and on the penalty kill. That's something that's rare and part of what makes him so special.»

Bedard believes Nazar fits any Olympic role

This discussion isn't happening in a vacuum, Blackhawks supporters have seen the connection between Bedard and Nazar grow all season. Their chemistry and mutual respect are part of why Chicago has been competitive this year, as Bedard leads the team in scoring with 44 points (19 goals, 25 assists) in 33 games.
For Bedard, Olympic dreams are still alive, and he's rooting for teammates like Nazar who bring more than offense to the ice. It's a reminder that in hockey, heart and adaptability often matter as much as pure skill. The Blackhawks' young stars might not be household names yet on the world stage, but Bedard's endorsement could change that conversation as Milan-Cortina 2026 draws closer.
