The Chicago Blackhawks could look to acquire the Seattle Kraken's former 4th overall pick in an off-season trade.

This summer could be crucial for the Blackhawks. Likely on the verge of finally having a breakout season, the team is only a few pieces away from bouncing back.
The Chicago Blackhawks find themselves in a rare and enviable position: they have a lot of available cap space, draft picks, and a deep prospect pool.
Also, Chicago will pick third overall in the 2025 draft, with several high-end forwards available. But while the upcoming draft and free agency are getting most of the spotlight, the Blackhawks could also explore their options on the trade market.
A recent report suggested that the Hawks should inquire about Shane Wright, the Seattle Kraken's fourth overall pick in 2022.
After being considered for the first overall pick at his draft, he fell in the rankings and dropped to the fourth pick. Since then, he has played in the OHL, AHL, and NHL.
Last season, he played 79 games in the NHL, scoring 44 points, including 19 goals, showing that he has the potential to become a game-changer in the NHL.
The question is whether Seattle is ready to move on - and whether Chicago should be the one to go after him. Wright hasn't reached his full potential yet, and the Blackhawks are already filled with young developing players.
If the organization wants to add another one, the team has the assets to make an interesting offer, even though it wouldn't be surprising to see the Kraken decide to keep him.
But if Wright ends up being available, the Hawks won't be the only team interested, and it'll likely turn into a bidding war. The Kraken GM, Jason Botterill, will have a tough decision to make, especially if Kyle Davidson makes him an offer he can't refuse.
