Chicago Blackhawks goaltender receives unexpected gift from Alex Ovechkin
Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Arvid Soderblom may have only won 15 games throughout his 84-game NHL career, but one of them was quite important and he has now received a gift from Alex Ovechkin and Budweiser, who just broke the NHL all-time goal record.
Alex Ovechkin is truly one of the greatest goal-scorers of all time, but his recent feat may have just removed the 'one of', and deemed him the greatest.
On Sunday, Ovechkin became the NHL's all-time goals leader with No. 895 against the New York Islanders.
Prior to facing off against the Islanders, Ovechkin hadn't scored a single goal against New York's goaltender Ilya Sorokin, making him one of the very few goaltenders to shutout the 'Great 8' throughout his career.
With Sorokin off that list, twenty-eight past and current goaltenders remained without allowing an Ovechkin goal while facing him, and Budweiser Canada did something special for those goaltenders, including Chicago Blackhawks' netminder Arvid Soderblom.
Following Alex Ovechkin's record-breaking goal, BudweiserCanada is honoring the 28 goalies who kept him off the scoreboard with #KingofZero commemorative cans. I love seeing some of the names on this list, including now-NHLPA exec Rob Zepp.
The first goaltender out of the bunch to receive their limited edition Budweiser can was St. Louis Blues Hall of Fame goaltender Curtis Joseph, and he quickly took to social media to show it off.
The current era of hockey fans witnessed history, and a recent statement that appeared unveiled that we may have also seen one of Ovechkin's last goals and games in the NHL.
Congrats Ovi!
