Chicago Blackhawks Forward Connor Bedard's Cousin Sets WHL All-Time Point Streak Record At 51
Chicago Blackhawks
forward Connor Bedard cousin Gavin McKenna is now alone in the history books as he's carved his own marking.
17-year-old WHL Medicine Hat Tigers forward Gavin McKenna extended his point streak to a single-season record of 51 games with an assist on the team's first goal just 2:37 into the game on Saturday night in Game 2 of the WHL's Eastern Conference final against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
McKenna's first assist wasn't just his only one of the game, he would then finish with five of them in a Tigers' 7-2 win in Medicine Hat.
«It's super cool, I couldn't have done it without so many of these guys,» McKenna told the Medicine Hat News. «It's not every year you get a group like this and get the opportunity to play with so many special players. So I have to thank the boys.»
McKenna tied former NHL player Alexander Radkulov's 50-game point streak (2005-06 with the Quebec Remparts) just the night before in their series-opening win.
The 17-year-old's point streak included 39 goals and 90 assists, for a whopping 129 points in his past 51 games.
His point streak started five months ago on November 6th when he buried a goal and two assists, which was oddly enough also against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
McKenna is a Whitehorse native and is second in WHL scoring this season and also a cousin to Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard.
The phenom is expected to go first overall in the 2026 NHL draft, would the Blackhawks be willing to tank one more year to select Bedard's cousin?
The series resumes Tuesday in Lethbridge, Alta.
