Chicago Blackhawks goalie Laurent Brossoit, who has yet to play a single game in a Chicago sweater, is opening up about where he stands with regard to his NHL career.
The Chicago Blackhawks signed goaltender Laurent Brossoit in 2024 to a two year contract, but he's yet to play a single game in a Blackhawks sweater.
He had surgery in September of 2024 to correct a knee issue, but it never really fully healed, but the good news for him is that he's now on the mend and has been on the ice again.
"Here we are - both hips are done, and I'm starting to feel better than I've ever felt. ou really don't realize how dysfunctional the hip can get. It can compensate for a long time. Now that I'm starting to get certain motions and strengths within the hip...you're like, 'Oh, that's how that's supposed to feel.' It takes a lot of pressure off the knee."
The Blackhawks may choose to send him to the AHL affiliate Rockford IceHogs so that he can complete a conditioning assignment before he potentially gets into game action, which Brossoit said he'd have no problem with as long as it gets him closer to playing NHL hockey.
"Whatever the route for me to end up playing in the NHL looks like, I'm all for it. I've been in this situation before, and it's always the [outcome] you expect the least that comes to fruition. Whatever that is, I'm game."
Laurent Brossoit Has Played For Multiple Teams In His NHL Career
Brossoit was taken with the 164th overall pick by the Calgary Flames in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, but he would soon be traded to the divisional foe Edmonton Oilers.
He'd play several years in the Oilers organization before joining the Winnipeg Jets for the first of two stints, followed by a tenure with the Vegas Golden Knights, winning the Stanley Cup in 2023.
He played a final year in Winnipeg in 2023-24 before signing in Chicago in 2024.
