Chicago Blackhawks fans woke up to news that the team has recalled forward Landon Slaggert from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League ahead of a back-to-back weekend against the Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins, giving Chicago a bit more depth up front.

Slaggert, 23, has been a frequent mover between Chicago and Rockford this season, and this call-up could mean more opportunity at the NHL level.
Slaggert was reassigned to Rockford on December 8 when the Blackhawks sent him down with defenseman Sam Rinzel, a move aimed at giving both players more consistent minutes.
Through those five AHL games, Slaggert picked up a point in three outings, showing he made good use of the extra ice time.
Chicago isn't exactly overflowing with healthy forwards right now, with stars like Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar sidelined by injuries.
With captain Nick Foligno still not activated off injured reserve after his hand injury, the Blackhawks opted to bring in Slaggert as a depth option for the upcoming games.
Though the latest injury update on Nick Foligno was quite encouraging.

Landon Slaggert returns to NHL roster

For the Blackhawks fanbase, this feels like a reset button for Slaggert's season, a chance to show he deserves a more regular spot. Landon Slaggert's journey this year has been a grind, alternating between leagues and roles as the team looks to balance development and performance.
In his 10 NHL games this season, Slaggert has tallied one goal, an impact that hasn't exactly solidified his place in the lineup but has shown flashes worth exploring further.
The third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft (No. 79 overall) has speed and tenacity, qualities Chicago will hope translate into valuable depth minutes this weekend.
With this roster move, Chicago now navigates a fragile forward group, missing key pieces but gaining a young winger who's familiar with the system.
It's a small but significant adjustment as the Blackhawks look to stay competitive through injuries and roster churn.
