A major development in Panarin being traded by the New York Rangers: "A deal is on the table"

A major development has just been confirmed per NHL insider Frank Seravalli, and it appears to establish his fate with the Rangers.

The New York Rangers and Artemi Panarin found a way to grab defeat from the jaws of victory under Peter Laviolette this year.

They'd finish 5th, and like the rest of the team, the forward would have a down year, scoring only 89 points soon after his 120-point season the year prior.

With the Rangers' retool starting without haste, GM Chris Drury would kickstart trades that would send veterans elsewhere in the league, which led to Panarin's name being in the mix as far as trade rumors this season went.

The former Blackhawks forward's extension hasn't been a certain thing, and with how Drury moves, you have to think he's had discussions elsewhere in the league about Panarin (we're speculating here).

NHL Insider Frank Seravalli believes that the Rangers and Panarin will come to terms on a deal that works for both sides, as a deal is already on the table.

For the Rangers, this could mean addition by subtraction, as they could rid the books of Panarin's massive $11.642 million cap hit and get a nice haul in return for the forward, but according to Seravali's report, a contract extension's on the table.

If Panarin were to be dealt, would he end up on a contending team's roster? The last time he was traded, he was sent to Columbus and would take part in the sweep of Tampa Bay in 2019.
