The Chicago Blackhawks and restricted free agent defenseman Wyatt Kaiser haven't been able to agree on a new deal, and now the reason is being leaked by analyst Scott Powers of The Athletic.

One matter of business that Chicago Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson hasn't been able to take care of yet is a new contract for defenseman Wyatt Kaiser, who is finished with his 3-year entry-level deal, leaving him a current restricted free agent.
Per analyst Scott Powers of The Athletic, Kaiser isn't satisfied with the offer that he's been presented by Chicago.
Needless to say, the 23-year-old defenseman is nowhere close to happy over this offer of a 'pay raise':
"The Blackhawks are believed to be offering Kaiser an increase in pay from the $916,667 cap hit on his entry-level deal, but it isn't exactly the bump Kaiser and his camp are looking for.

The clock is obviously ticking, but both sides are still hopeful that a deal can be done. Neither party wants Kaiser to miss any of training camp. The Blackhawks and Kaiser want him to have a remarkable season and start on the right foot come the first day of practice on Thursday."

- Scott Powers

Kaiser was taken with the 81st overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by the Blackhawks and had 8 points (4G, 4A) in 57 games for Chicago last year. He has 18 points (4G, 14A) in 98 career NHL games.

The Blackhawks recently re-signed goalie Spencer Knight

Even though they've not been able to sign Kaiser yet, the Blackhawks recently took care of an important pair of contracts.
Days ago, the Blackhawks secured the short-term future of goaltender Spencer Knight, who they received from the Florida Panthers in the blockbuster Seth Jones deal.
They signed him to a 3-year extension with an AAV (average annual value) of $5.83 million, and he'll compete for the starting job with Arvid Soderblom, a former RFA who was re-signed by Davidson to a 2-year deal.
